Cutting Loose with Tied Weaves

Class Description:

Tied weaves are whole group of different ways to create patterned fabrics with floats of limited lengths.  Plus, one threading can provide a multitude of different treadling options - from singles and pairs to Dukagang and taqueté.  In this workshop, participants will learn the fundamentals of tied weaves and explore a wide variety of treadling techniques to create different results. For weavers interested in understanding terms like summer and winter, single two-tie, taqueté, samitum, and exploring Quigley or Bergman tied weaves, then this workshop is for them!  Four- shaft loom minimum; eight shafts recommended.  (Note: This is not a round-robin workshop.)

Skill Level:

Intermediate to Advanced (and adventure-seeking beginners).  Participants will pre-warp their loom with the threading of their choice selected from a small collection of tied weave threadings provided by the instructor approximately 6-8 week in advance.  Participants need to be able to warp a loom, read a draft, wind a bobbin, etc

Materials required:

  • Pre-warped loom (floor or table) with a minimum of four shafts, eight shafts recommended

  • Two shuttles with at least two bobbins

  • Weft yarns per the warping instructions

  • Scissors

The following will be supplied:

100+ page color-printed, spiral-bound workshop notebook

$100 Deposit

Estimated final cost $295, based on 12 students enrolled, $220 based on maximum enrollment. In addition, there is a material fee of $25. The final cost will depend on the number of students enrolled.  $100 deposit due at time of registration. Final payment is due during the workshop.
