Processing Flax

Teacher: Filip Jacob Zachoval



When: Fri., Sept. 11, 2026, 10am – Noon



Where: In person, S. Seattle Residence -
address provided prior to event, 5-minute walk from Judkins Park light rail and bus.



What:

You’ll learn the key flax processes, namely: breaking, scutching, and hacking. The flax plants were grown from seed, harvested, dried, and retted. Seed have been rippled & winnowed.

We’ll use traditional flax processing tools, as well as alternative ones (readily available substitutes).

Workshop participants will receive a flax strick that is ready to spin.

 



Participant’s Supplies to Bring:

  • No supplies needed

  • Feel free to bring any retted flax or your processing tools
