Designing with Stripes

Whether you are weaving tiny coasters, placemats, scarves, or even giant rugs, the width, contrast, and spacing of your stripes will have a big impact. Wide or narrow? How close together? What colors? How dark or light? In this mini-workshop you’ll work with paper strips and yarn wrappings to explore a variety of stripe patterns for your future projects. Paper and cardboard provided.

**Participant’s Supplies to Bring:**

Scissors, ruler/straight edge, glue stick, scotch tape.
Yarn in colors you like (several yards of each color).
Post card or other image with a color scheme you like (not required).

Explore a Vast Collection of Spinning Wool and Plant Fibers

Teacher: JoAnn Ullstrom
When: August 15, 2026, Noon-2pm.
Where: In person, in Woodinville. Address provided before the event and the location has accessible parking and entrance.

With about 36 different fibers to touch, feel and read about, this is a spinner’s feast. You are welcome to try them out and spin – it’s a fun way to experiment.

Bring your own drop spindle or wheel with starter yarn on your bobbin/spindle. If you have a carder, please bring that too. If you choose to spin, a small material fee is appreciated ($5-10 cash only).

When: Fri., Sept. 11, 2026, 10am – Noon
Where: In person, Seattle Residence - address provided prior to event, 5-minute walk from Judkins Park light rail and bus.

You’ll learn the key flax processes, namely: breaking, scutching, and hacking. The flax plants were grown from seed, harvested, dried, and retted. Seed have been rippled & winnowed.

**What:**
You’ll learn the key flax processes, namely: breaking, scutching, and hacking. The flax plants were grown from seed, harvested, dried, and retted. Seed have been rippled & winnowed.

We’ll use traditional flax processing tools, as well as alternative ones (readily available substitutes).
Workshop participants will receive a flax strick that is ready to spin.

Feel free to bring any retted flax or your processing tools

Intro to Weaving Software

Presenters: Heidi Bennett, Russell Owen and Janet Dawson
When: Saturday, July 11, 1-3pm OVER
Where: Zoom

Whether you are on a 2-shaft Rigid Heddle or Inkle Loom, a table or floor loom with 4 or more shafts weaving software can really help you with the planning, designing, warping and treadling your next project. Play with color choices, play with drafts, re-arrange shafts, alter patterns and have fun exploring the vast resources of online patterns. All in the comfort of your easy chair.
