Community Outreach

Among the goals of the Seattle Weavers Guild is to "promote interest in handweaving in the community through education, instruction, research and service" (Seattle Weavers Guild Articles of Incorporation). Our community outreach committee participates in activities all year to further this goal.

These events have included the Folklife Festival, Sheep to Shawl at the Puyallup Fair, Vashon Island's Sheep Dog Trials, neighborhood art fairs, supporting the Southeast Seattle Senior Center's Weaving Studio, helping scout troops with their textile badges, special demonstrations for schools and other community groups, donating scarves to Seattle Children's Hospital, and supplying craft kits for teachers and other groups to use with their students.

For 2022-23 we have several kits available on request for groups of students: weaving on a CD, cardboard weaving, and Kumihimo braiding using a slice of a pool noodle.
