Have you ever thought, ‘Gee, I should probably keep some weaving notes, but where do I start?’ or ‘How much fiber do I need for this project?’ Then this mini-workshop is for you.
Whether you weave on a Rigid Heddle, Shaft Loom, Band Loom or something else, this workshop walks you through two helpful worksheets that you can use.
PROJECT RECORD SHEET is a fill in the blank form so you can record the specific details of your project— warp and weft, what loom, heddle/reed size, EPI, PPI, finishing, the sizes on the loom and the final sizes so you can know shrinkage/take-up. Knowing all this info helps you to repeat your project, increase/decrease the finished size accordingly and plan your next project without unforeseen surprises.
The WARP & WEFT WORKSHEET will help you figure out how much warp and weft you’ll need. Whether you use this paper form or one of many online forms – this workshop will help clarify the info required, so you can be a whiz at project planning. We will also discuss, the reverse planning, I have xyz yarns, how much can I weave.
Yes, there’s a bit of math, but nothing you can’t handle with a calculator, a measuring tape and a deep breath.
Instructor/Organizer: Heidi Bennett, SWG weaver, Rigid Heddle instructor and avid record keeper.
When: MAY 21, Wednesday, 7-9pm (1- 2 hours (as needed)
Where: Zoom
Maximum Participants: 25
Materials Requirements: Print out worksheets, pencil, eraser, 1 yard of yarn, ruler, calculator and a deep breath.

Photoshop for Weaving Designs
When: May 15, 2024 - Wednesday, 6–8 PM (Zoom workshop)
About: Are you interested in how you might use Photoshop to create weaving designs? This presentation will give students a high-level overview of software and resources available so that they can start designing digital tie-ups or liftplans. This workshop will consist of informational slides and then demos showing both a tie-up design and a liftplan design. If interest and time allows, Jennifer will also demonstrate how she uses Photoshop for her drawloom designs.
No experience with Photoshop is necessary, but a basic understanding of weaving software and computers is helpful. This workshop will be of most interest to students with looms with 8 or more shafts, although all are welcome!

Weft Ikat
When: June 6, 2023 - Tuesday, 11:00 - 2:00. Via Zoom (updated 3/21/23)
About: Learn the tips and tricks to weaving a weft ikat.
More info: "In weft ikat, it is the weft threads that are ikat dyed. This type of weaving is more difficult than warp ikat, as the pattern will be formed only as the weaving progresses. This means that the weaver has to constantly center and readjust the yarns to ensure the pattern is formed correctly."

The Many Ways to Use Your Inkle Loom
When: April 15, 2023 - TBA
About: Many of you know inkle means “narrow band” but that doesn’t mean the options for using an inkle loom have to be limited. This workshop will showcase the broad variety of weaving types that can be done on a very portable inkle loom, including
Plain Inkle Weaving – including how to make heddles and warp the loom
Advanced Inkle Weaving – learning the basics of pick-up (and drop-down)
Card/Tablet Weaving – a couple of options for warping the loom, and an overview on types of card weaving, whether it’s threaded in patterns or double face styles
Brocaded Tablet Weaving – a few techniques for how to use a supplementary weft to create designs on top of the weaving
Rigid-Heddle Weaving - a bonus section on how to use rigid heddles on inkle looms for demonstrations or working with trickier yarns
Teacher: Melissa Von Aschen-Cook.
When: Date to be determined but it will be in mid April, 2023.

Intro to Smålandsväv.
When: March 1, 2023 - Wednesday, 11am, Zoom, open
About: Are you curious about weaving on a Drawloom, but don't actually have a Drawloom? Me too! Then I learned about a pattern weaving technique called Smålandsväv. It uses 2 separate harnesses (ie, sets of shafts), but it can be done on a counterbalance or countermarch loom with just a little modification. It uses 2 shuttles, and you can weave beautiful patterns! I'll show you what I did to my Glimakra Ideal loom to set it up for Smålandsväv, and I'll show you what I wove.
